Hotels owned by InnVest – the hotel`s largest owner in Canada – have laid off hundreds of CEWS (Fairmont Royal York) workers, while others have not bothered to put staff at CEWS (Hyatt Regency Vancouver, Ottawa Marriott Hotel, The St. Regis Toronto). Companies like this deserve a bailout?? UNITE HERE is the world`s strongest hotel workers` union with more than 100,000 hotel members and the best contracts in the sector. On 29 March, the hotel and restaurant staff of UNITE HERE Local 75 chose a new management. More than 1/3 of our members participated in the election, the highest turnout in the history of our establishment. Our new leadership was elected with 83% of the decisive vote. The election marks the passage of our trust resident as we welcome many new groups of local leaders. The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and dozens of its union members put the weight of the Canadian labour movement behind UNITE HERE Local 75 during a unity rally at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on Monday, March 26, 2018. More than 1,000 Canadian union leaders, members and supporters showed solidarity with the more than 900 UNITE HERE Local 75 workers who are currently negotiating a new collective agreement with the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
