Also after the Moroccan announcement, a senior Israeli official Kan News said that another unmentioned country could announce in a few days a normalization agreement with Israel. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned the United Arab Emirates that it will have dangerous consequences for the agreement. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called the agreement a „huge mistake” and warned the United Arab Emirates that Israel was not safe in the Gulf. Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif spoke of a betrayal of Arab and non-Arab countries in the Middle East. A group of protesters with less than 100 residents gathered in front of the VaE Embassy in Tehran on 15 August, chanting „Death to America” and „Death to Israel”. Protesters also burned Israel`s flag. The conservative newspaper Kayhan, whose editor-in-chief is appointed by Iran`s Supreme Leader, warned that the agreement had made the United Arab Emirates a „legitimate and simple objective.” During the announcement of the agreement in the Oval Office – during a conference call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the civilian and military leaders of Sudan, Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan , Trump did not answer the question of whether the agreement amounted to a total diplomatic normalization between Sudan and Israel. On 13 August 2020, uae Foreign Minister Anwar Gargash proclaimed the United Arab Emirates agreement on normalizing relations with Israel and said his country would address threats to the two-state solution, in particular the annexation of the Palestinian territories, and called on the Palestinians and Israelis to return to the negotiating table. He suggested that he did not think there would be an embassy in Jerusalem until there was a final agreement between the Palestinians and the Israelis. According to US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, „Israel and the United Arab Emirates will completely normalize diplomatic relations.
They will exchange embassies and ambassadors and begin working together in all areas such as tourism, education, health, trade and security. Saudi Arabia played a role in the standardization agreement between Israel and Morocco negotiated by Trump, diplomatic sources told Channel 12 on Friday. The dissidents tweeted a series of statements protesting the decision to normalize, with the frank hashtag „Normalization is treason.” Among the most prominent critics was the exiled Shiite cleric, Sheikh Isa Qassim, who issued a statement on the report of a moderate opposition group, al-Wefaq, banned by the government. Qassim was a great leader of the anti-government insurgency during the 2011 Arab Spring and lives in exile because the government stripped him of his citizenship. In his statement, Qassim called on the people to oppose „psychological defeat” and to work to reverse the normalization of relations with Israel or, at the very least, to put obstacles in its path. Jared Kushner, senior adviser and son-in-law of the president, said the agreement calls on Morocco to establish full diplomatic relations and formalize economic relations with Israel. It will also allow overflights of its airspace and direct commercial flights to Moroccan airports in Tel Aviv, Kushner said. On the other hand, Sudan has ceased to declare full and normalized relations with Israel and has recently threatened to withdraw from the agreement if Congress does not grant it immunity from terrorism trials aimed at bringing families of victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks against the country to welcome Mr.
.bin Laden years before the attacks. When it comes to normalization, the VaE and Bahrain may have set fire to a powder keg with a short fuse, just as the 10th anniversary of the Arab Spring is approaching.
